I currently live in Charlotte, NC and after spending 7 years as a personal chef and caterer, I am now happy to share my love of cooking with friends and family. My heart is in the kitchen, but my soul is in the stars!

It's a wonderful life

Who knew when I started this blog nearly 3 years ago how many wonderful opportunities it would present me with. First and foremost, it gave me something to be accountable for when I felt my desire for cooking, eating, and life in general waning. It has brought about avenues for making wonderful new virtual friends and reconnecting and staying in touch with old personal friends. And most recently, my blog has been the reason that free food samples were delivered to my door.

About a month ago, the people from POM Wonderful emailed and asked if I'd be interested in receiving a free sample of their product in return for a review here on my blog. I couldn't hit "Reply" quickly enough to give them my address and anxiously await what I thought would be a small bottle of liquid gold in my mailbox. I've seen the stuff in the grocery stores but it has never found its way into my grocery cart as of yet. Imagine my excitement when I came home for lunch one day to find not just one small bottle of POM Wonderful waiting for me, but a whole case of the ruby red jewels sitting on my front porch!

A little internet research shows that the folks from POM Wonderful routinely hock their delicious, antioxidant rich pomegranate juice throughout the food blogosphere in return for publicity and testimonials and while most lucky recipients confess to drinking the juice straight from the bottle, there are a few who use it in food preparation. I wanted to join those few so I set about finding recipes. I had intended to get my post(s) up long before now, but again, that pesky thing called a social life got in the way. Hopefully this weekend will allow me to prep the Pomegranate Gelato that I have planned and also tweak a recipe for POM Vinaigrette that I envision dressing my salad in the very near future. Stay tuned for those posts but for now I'd like to leave you with a tasty little cocktail {I can always find time to drink} called Pomegranate Pink Jade.

For one serving:

2 oz. POM Wonderful pomegranate juice
2 oz. orange juice
2 oz. your favorite vodka
splash of sparkling water (optional)

Pour the first 3 ingredients over ice into a cocktail shaker and shake, shake, shake. Shake, shake, shake. Shake your booty! Pour into a sugar rimmed martini glass and add a splash of sparkling water, if desired, and boogie til you just can't boogie no more.

A big thank you to the POM Wonderful people and I will confess not being able to resist taking a swig directly from the bottle while mixing this drink. How can something so good for you taste so wonderful?? POM Wonderful will be making regular appearances in my grocery cart from now on.

Just a slight correction...I do believe the lyrics are: boogie oogie oogie till you just can't boogie no more. Lordy, what memories! By the way, I made some orange sugar Saturday to sprinkle on that wonderful Dreamsicle Cake and I think it would be wonderful on the rim of the glass of one of these little lovelies.

You are so right, Terri! See what happens when I swig from the bottle? LOL

I'll be anxious to hear how your Dreamsicle cake turned out! I was hoping you'd be able to find the Orange Supreme cake mix...I could never find it in AR nor here in NC and had to buy it on one of my visits to my parents' in TN.
